The department

Job overview:

To undertake the higher level tasks in the management accounting team with particular focus on the preparation of the monthly management accounts and finance business partnering with central support team managers.

To assist the Head of Management Accounting with the management of the team including workload management, and coaching & motivation of team members.

 

Management accounting team responsibilities and duties

  • Management of all the financial transactions and balances on the accounting system (except for those which are the specific responsibility of the other accounts teams).
  • Preparation of monthly management accounts.
  • Preparation of annual overhead budgets.
  • Finance business partnering including commercial support to central support team managers and controlling / managing overhead costs.
  • Running of overhead purchase ledger including staff expenses (the client accounting team runs the disbursement purchase ledger).
  • Preparation of daily and monthly bank account reconciliations and investigation / resolution of reconciling items.
  • Cashflow and treasury management of client and office account balances.
  • Annual statutory accounts preparation and management of audit.
  • Payroll including payroll related taxes.
  • Partner financial affairs including profit shares, drawings, tax reserving, tax payments and tax returns.
  • VAT compliance including quarterly VAT returns.
  • Firm annual tax returns.
  • Minimisation of the risk of financial losses to the firm, including through fraud.
  • Efficient and effective co-ordination with the other accounts teams.
  • Assistance with development of the firm’s financial systems.
  • Assistance with any mergers undertaken by the firm.
  • Any other tasks as reasonably required by the Finance Director or Financial Controller.
Other information

Knowledge, skills and experience:

  • Senior accountancy qualification (eg ACA, ACCA or CIMA).
  • Knowledge and experience of management accounting, including processes for preparation of monthly management accounts and annual budgets.
  • Experience of staff management including delegation, workload management, coaching and motivation.
  • Aptitude for business partnering with non finance staff, helping them understand and assess financial / commercial implications.
  • Experience of annual audit process.
  • High level of accuracy and numeracy.
  • Well organised with good time management and able to work under pressure to strict deadlines.
  • Focus on continual improvement and a pro-active approach to problem solving.
  • Excellent IT skills, including high level Excel skills and experience of system report writing.
  • Extensive of finance / accounting systems.
  • Ability to build good working relationships with all contacts both inside and outside the firm.
  • Experience of minimising fraud risks and promotion of fraud awareness.
