The department

Our Banking & Finance practice acts for banks, asset-based lenders, non-traditional lenders and borrower clients in relation to a wide range of financing transactions.

The team are now looking for a talented lawyer to join them. With a strong rating in Chambers/Legal500, and an enviable client list, this is an excellent opportunity to join a multi-disciplinary banking practice. you will have opportunity to work with great clients on a range of finance transactions - in particular, property finance, ABL finance and acquisition finance deals. Your workload will also include re-financings and restructurings.

JOB PURPOSE:

  • To operate as a Solicitor in the Banking & Finance Team, working alongside the partners on a wide range of banking matters.
  • You will be a lawyer with +1 years' experience working in banking law and have good general transactional experience. You may also be starting to develop an area of specialism.
  • You will pride yourself on your ability to achieve results and be calm under pressure. Your pragmatism and commercial outlook together with excellent drafting skills, and your collaborative approach to working with other members of the team and a willingness to learn, will be vital in supporting our clients.
  • Core work will be a wide variety of banking transactions (acquisition finance, corporate and commercial banking, ABL finance and property finance) acting for lenders or corporate borrowers.
  • You will have responsibility for running your own files under supervision and coaching, developing and working in a team with partners and other assistants.
  • Your main office will be Crawley, with prime responsibility to operate regionally, however, you will also be responsible for supporting our London Banking & Finance team and you will have exposure to London work.
  • The team often have to work to stretching timescales, so flexibility of working hours is necessary.
  • The team’s focus is building high quality banking clients in the South East region and being involved in as many of the key regional banking deals as we can. We operate as a team, and you will be involved in building and developing client and professional/referrer contacts.
  • You will have your own fee and time targets as determined by the Group Leader/Head of Department, including contribution, hours and fees.

 

DESIRABLE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Experience of working in a transactional Banking team is required and you will need to demonstrate an ability to work in that field.
  • Knowledge of the Companies Acts and a working knowledge of banking transactional processes.
  • Ability to effectively manage your time to achieve client and internal deadlines.
  • Understanding the importance of client care with an ability to deal with a wide range of clients with differing objectives including being able to understand the commercial objectives of the client.
  • Ability to work within a team and provide support to Associates and Partners as appropriate.
  • Competent IT skills including Outlook, Word, using document management systems and using time recording systems.
  • Ability to draft documentation, with attention to detail.
  • Understanding of the strategy and vision of the firm.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with clients, in writing, over the telephone and in meetings.
  • Ability to convey technical legal information in an effective and accessible way.
