The department

Job Purpose

Responsible for the development, implementation, and in-life support of the firm’s IT applications/systems supporting the Practice Groups legal operations.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Design, develop and deploy new systems into the firm
  • Enhancement and maintenance of existing systems (Web & Windows apps,.NET console apps & Office VBA).
  • Production of management reports using SQL Server Reporting Services.
  • To assist in the projects of other members of the IT Team.
  • Third line support of Intranet / Extranet, Word and other applications as advised.
  • To keep fully up to date on the functions and capabilities of in-house systems including Microsoft Office.
  • To ascertain from users their requirements for implementation of systems including Case Manager and to use knowledge and experience of legal practice and procedures to assist users in defining those requirements.

Knowledge Skills and Experience required

  • A minimum of 2 years IT experience in a commercial environment, preferably in a legal or professional firm.
  • Effective organisational skills and ability to prioritise
  • Proven analytical and project delivery skills.
  • Skills in the follow areas are essential:
    • C#
    • ASP.NET Web Forms
    • SQL Server and T-SQL
    • Source code repositories (e.g. Subversion / TortoiseSVN)
    • Secure coding practices and security best practice
    • Object Orientated Design
    • Change Control and Deployment processes
  • Skills / experience in the following would be advantageous:
    • Microsoft SharePoint
    • Practice Management / Accounting System – e.g. Axxia / Aderant
    • Case Management/Workflow Systems
    • Microsoft Internet Information Server (IIS)
    • Scheduled Tasks
    • Full Stack Development
    • Microsoft Office applications including VBA
    • jQuery / JavaScript
    • SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS)
    • MVC & Entity Framework
    • Power BI
    • iManage
