The department

Our Planning Team is one of the largest teams of chartered planning consultants within a law firm anywhere in England, providing planning consultancy and advising on a range of issues concerning planning law, environmental law, compulsory purchase, infrastructure and highways.

This is a rare opportunity to join our highly regarded team of Chartered Planners within our  Planning team with the role being based in our Gatwick office. Our planning consultancy is one of the largest teams of chartered planning consultants within a law firm anywhere in England, and in its own right one of the main planning consultancies in the region.

 

The team has an enviable track record of success in delivering complex major development and regeneration projects both for public and private sector clients.

 

The role is to operate as an effective member of the Planning Group, and in particular the Chartered Planning team, working within the wider technical internal team of Chartered Planners, Planning Lawyers, and also other external technical consultants, such as architects, surveyors, traffic engineers, landscape architects and ecologists.

WHO AND WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

The key criteria for the ideal candidate will include: 

  • Membership of the RTPI
  • Solid experience of the planning process and dealing with planning applications and appeals is essential
  • Understanding of planning legislation, including relevant case law
  • A commercial and pragmatic approach to Planning advice is important
  • Preferable, previous experience of working with clients independently and as part of the consultant team
  • Ideally geographical knowledge of the South East
  • Ideally, some experience of managing and developing client relationships or a desire to do so and to be involved in business development and marketing.
  • An understanding of the importance of client care with an ability to deal confidently with a wide range of clients with differing objectives
  • Strong numeracy and literacy skills, with the ability to write reports clearly and effectively with attention to detail 
  • The ability to work well in a team and communicate effectively both with the team and with clients.
  • The ability to effectively manage your time to achieve client and internal deadlines.
  • Preferably, the ability to drive and have use of their own vehicle to enable site visits.
