The department

We are seeking a Solicitor to join our Corporate team working on the development and growth of a corporate practice.  As an effective member of the Corporate group you will build your long term network and specialism in the Sussex/Surrey area. Whilst Gatwick/Guildford is the market we expect you to be known in and build your long term network and specialism, we expect everyone in the Corporate team to be willing to work in Gatwick, Guildford and London, depending on work demands and available resource.

 

Core work will be general M&A markets, acquisition and sale of private companies, private equity and financing of private businesses, shareholders agreements and restructuring, together with corporate support required. In addition, the department deals with Capital Market transactions and you may be asked to be involved.

 

You will need to get experience in a wide range of work, and may be required to provide support to the commercial and banking teams if work pressure demands it. The team often have to work to stretching timescales, so flexibility of working hours is necessary.

Other information

Initially you will work with other members of the team, but as your experience develops, you will  have responsibility for running your own files and fee targets under supervision. What we are looking for is;

                                                       

  • Between NQ or up to 3 years PQE
  • Some previous experience of Corporate M&A, some capital markets experience is helpful or you will need to demonstrate an ability to do so
  • Knowledge of the Companies Acts and a working knowledge of Corporate transactional processes
  • Able to effectively manage your time to achieve client and internal deadlines
  • Understand the importance of client care with an ability to deal with a wide range of clients with differing objectives including being able to understand the commercial objectives of the client
  • Able to work within a team and provide support to Partners as appropriate
  • Confident Excel skills sufficient to enable the reviewing of relevant matters
  • Competent IT skills including Outlook, Word, Digital Dictation, case manager and DocuSign
  • Ability to draft documentation, with attention to detail
  • Understanding of the strategy and vision of the firm
  • Communicate effectively with clients, in writing, over the telephone and in meetings
  • Convey technical legal information in an effective and accessible way
